The Seduction of Alternative Facts

When truth provides
no real comfort,
hope wraps her
like sturdy arms,
murmurs alternative facts
with conviction in her ear.

Sometimes, she takes refuge there:
a home with unlocked doors,
words pretty as sunrise,
futures rich and enticing as crème brûlée.

NaPoWriMo Day 23

spitting fire
she dropped to the bus seat
surprised the driver stopped
and opened the door
let her enter
the crowded public transportation
covered as she was in flames

no one even gave her
or her inferno
a second glance
she was ready if they did
sharp retort loaded
all she needed was an aim
someone to set ablaze

how could they not see
she was a pyre
cloaked in grey business drab
gripping a paper cup
purse slung like a bandoleer
stiletto heels a calculation
her life completely flammable

Less Than Prime

Filet mignon
may no longer really be
filet mignon,
rather a hodgepodge
of less desirable bovine scraps
stuck together with meat glue,
passing as prime.

Currently approved to reassemble
bits of broken cattle,
she anxiously awaits
the FDA expansion
for use on human hearts,
hoping to finally reattach all
of her wrecked and fragmented pieces.
