They lit the city
handed us neon markers
to create pristine graffiti
on glass boards
that easily wiped clean
floated multicolored lanterns
harmoniously in the harbor
projected dazzling images
on a wall of water suspended
outside a posh eatery

We walked past
strip clubs
crumbling buildings
decorated with profanity
and an inlet afloat in trash
to buy our crepes
watch a man eat fire
and revel in a blinding light
